For many, the work they do is driven primarily by the need to earn money. While money is important, they toil away at a job or place they at best they don't much enjoy and at worst they hate.
Having coached and found a jobs for people from a wide variety of professions - from Dentists, IT Specialists and Engineers to Non-Profit Executive Directors, Sales Managers, and Artists - the most common theme has been, "This job pays well but I feel...
stuck
trapped
unfulfilled
like I'm spinning my wheels
uninspired
under utilized
unappreciated
like it's killing me
I came to learn a valuable lesson from my own experience toiling in a job I hated. I felt I had to keep it because the comp and benefits were very good and I had a family to support. I was lamenting, for the umpteenth time, to my career coach how I simply couldn't make a move to do what I felt I was called to do and would enjoy because it would never pay "enough".
He then asked me a question that changed my life (really):
"Are you open to the possibility that you can do what you feel called to do and would love doing and make all the money you and your family need?"
I was dumbstruck. I had convinced myself that it just wasn't possible, yet the roadblock was always placed there by my own worst enemy, ME! With that awakening, I began planning a transition to being a career coach, mentor, and job search specialist so I could help others find the job they've always wanted but felt it wasn't in their reach.
It didn't happen overnight, but having and working a plan with support from my wife and coach I ultimately made the leap of faith. I quit my corporate gig (friends and colleagues thought I was crazy) and made it happen. It was definitely scary at first, but I stayed with it and said to friends, "I bet that in six months I'll ask why didn't I do this sooner? In fact, it only took about 6 weeks! I found my stride, began living my personal mission of helping others find meaningful, fulfilling work. And while I'm not getting rich, the Psychic Salary™ is greater than for any other job I've had :)
